LAHORE: A private company has inked an agreement with the Lahore Zoo for installing 20 lightemitting diodes (LEDs) at different enclosures where information on those animals about their food, habitat and life span will be scrolled.
Lahore Zoo Director Hassan Ali Sukhera told Dawn the LEDs, installed for a term of three years, would screen 55pc content of the zoo and 45pc of the private company, called `Process Dynamics (Pvt) Limited`These LEDs would be installed before Eidul Fitr and they would be a new and a novel experience for the visitors besides being helpful for them to have more information about the animals, said the director.
`The LEDs are a part of Eid preparations as the zoo is undergoing a lot of betterment in terms of paint and improved infrastructure.
Mr Sukhera said it was important to impart information about animals and birds in captive breeding which was an integral part of education on such wildlife.
To a question about the arrival ofelephant in the zoo that the wildlife department was purchasing for Rs50m, the director said the animal supplier hadn`t given any final date in this regard.
He also shared with this reporter that two elephants might be gifted to the Punjab government by the Sri Lankan government as the high commissioner of Sri Lanka had recommended to his government to gift two elephants to Punjab which would be housed at Lahore Zoo Safari as decided by the Punjab Wildlife Department.
Mr Sukhera said gift of two elephants to Pakistan by Sri Lankahad long been in process and now the high commissioner had recommended this proposal.
`We are anxiously waiting for the trio of giraffes as well which will positively be brought to the zoo by June 15,` he said and added that import of a few more new animals from other countries was also in the pipeline.
Elaborating the arrangements for Eidul Fitr, the zoo director said measures were being taken to provide a comfortable atmosphere to visitors on Eid, including provision of more benches and other facilities and a better parking system.
